The level of the sport in Britain is world class, with teams from all nations competing exceptionally well at world level.
The England Surf Kayak Team won the World Championships in Portugal 2009 and are looking to defend their title in 2011 at Outer Banks, North Carolina - on the east coast USA.

There are many individuals from beginner to expert class in surf kayaking that are not in the England team but paddle for fun, some for competitions and others for the social aspects. Many independant paddlers want to be involved in a group for all three reasons and many more. One week before the England Team head to North Carolina USA for some fun, sun and hopefully lots of surf! It's countdown to the World Championships. Due to hurricane Irene a month ago the contest has been moved 50 miles North. Many roads and bridges have been destroyed. We thank the organisers of the event whom have been busy dealing with the situation in their home area, for making this contest still possible. Paddlers from Portugal, Galice, Basque Country, France, Italy, Brasil and England surfed the nice sometimes dumpy Santa Cruz waves.
